Abstract:

Through the laboratory physical simulation,we study the effects of argon gas blowing at the bottom installed gas permeable bricks on steel flow and inclusion removal inside the tundish.Combining the residence time distribution curves(RTD curves),mean residence time, dead region and volume fraction of plug flow,we study steel flowability with and without gas permeable bricks of different areas. Then we can concluded that the bottom gas blowing can improve the steel flow condition, prolong response time and reduce the dead region volume. When the distances between the top of the tundish and porous diversion wall and the gas curtain are 600mm and 500mm respectively, the result shows the longest mean residence time and the smallest dead region volume.
